HOWDY! I'M RENE—retired, recharged… and ready for every project that’s been waiting too long on the “someday” list.
After 44 years as a retail manager—and a few decades before that in carpentry, roofing, and home repair—I traded sales floors for sawdust, soil, and sketch pads. These days, I’m focused on fixing up the house, salvaging what’s good, and sharing what I’ve learned with folks who want to save money, build smart, and get their hands a little dirty.
This is my second act, and I’m making it count. Because life doesn’t end at retirement… it just shifts gears.

Every now and then, you’ll also hear from my wife, Maria Elena. She’s got a sharp eye for good finds, smart savings, and family-tested recipes. If there’s a clever household tip, a great grocery haul, or an adventure worth retelling—you can bet she’ll be sharing it here too.
