Chapter 7: DIY Duron Ranch Projects

Shopping and Building on a budget

Howdy y’all! Welcome back! Today, Corey Sly Electrical Service Inc. will be here. The guys arrived on time, as scheduled. First, they will add the double breaker to the main house breaker panel. See the picture below. Then they will run the wire up into the attic, run the wire across the attic floor/above the garage, send the wire down the outside wall to meet the existing hole in the wall where I had removed the sprinkler system. See all three pictures below.

Here is the Electric Panel to the main house in the garage. That double breaker on the bottom left side is for the NEW Shop.

Derrick and Corbin really make it look easy. I myself did not want to get fried. That's why I call in the Professionals as needed. Remember what I say…”You got to know your limitations.” I’m a good DIY’er, but knowing your limitations can save you a lot of time and money and most importantly, a life.  Please, “Safety First”. 🤠

This is an Attic view facing above the Main Electrical Panel. UP comes the wire.🤠 That thick black wire is behind that 2x6 joist on the left. Don’t pay attention to all those other wires. Those are just cable, other electrical to the main house, Alarm system and the land line telephone wire. 😅Yep! Landline…I think we may be the only people in the great State of Texas that still have a “Landline”. LOL!!! 😅🤠

Lowes , Home Depot , Walmart , Tractor Supply and Amazon seem to be my “to go” retailers lately. 🤔 Please don’t forget my other affiliates listed in my first chapters. Please check them out and find some good deals. Academy,  Dicks,  DSW,  Dr. Martens,  HeyDude,  Levi,  Lands’End,  Lucky Brand,  Pet Smart,  Ray Ban,  Target,  Timberland,  Under Armour and  Tocovas.  Y’all click on my links, have some fun and check out some great deals to save time and money. 🤠

Back to the electrical job. The big, black wire has now come up the wall and is heading across the attic floor, above the garage, toward the outside wall. Me being the conversationalist and Curious George 🐵 type, I had to ask, “ what does 6 AWG Black PVC 600V” mean?  🤠 The guy’s were great. They both sound like my three sons. ☺️ So smart. So much intelligent information. 🤠 So they answered my question very politely. “6 AWG indicates a thick heavy-duty wire (American Wire Gauge). Black is the National Electric Code means HOT. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation of the wire. It offers good resistance to moisture, abrasion, chemicals and provides flame retardance. 😮 600V is the maximum voltage the insulation is safely rated to withstand. 😮 O.K. my head is ready to explode again.

“Is it Miller Time Yet?”   NO! SIR!

Back to following the wire.  🤠

Derrick and Corbin continue and I’m just trying to stay out of the way. I really have to stop being a chatty patty, but it is just in my nature. 🤣 I do learn a lot and I believe it just makes me a better DIY’er. The guys are very polite and do not seem disturbed at all. I like them. They have a great sense of humor. Corbin seems to enjoy poking fun at Derrick (which Derrick is the Lineman). He not only is in charge of this job, but other jobs he may get called away for.

This is the Attic view of the big, black, wire running toward the outside wall facing the Shop.

View of the big roll of wire that Derrick and Corbin were running. Y’all can see the existing electrical outlet box on the far wall. That is the hole in the wall and brick where I pulled out the sprinkler system. I promised to tell the story of pulling the sprinkler system. This was my choice since I am also the Yard Man. 🤠 I noticed that every time the sprinklers would go on, the West Texas wind would just blow all the water into the street.😡 We can not waste water in West Texas.😞I water our Lawn by hand now. If I use a portable sprinkler, I make sure that zero water goes into the street. If we run out of water out here, it is NOT my fault. 🤠LOL!

Derrick and Corbin are very efficient. See more pictures below. The Electrical wire is now on its way to the Shop.

Out the wall, down into the ground….up at the shop. 🤠

“Viola!” Out she comes INTO the shop!  🤠

Now the guys are ready to place the NEW Shop breaker Box on that wall and continue in the Shop only. 👍 My job at the end of the day will be to cover the conduit in the trench. 💪

I think I’ve done enough damage for one day. 🤣
